Apple Tempura (Serve 4-6)

Apple Tempura (Serve 4-6) Ingredients:

  • 1 packet Asian Home Gourmet Tempura Batter Mix
  • 6 green apples, peeled and diced into big cubes
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup (220ml) cold water
  • Oil for deep frying

  • Caramel coating (optional):
  • 110ml (½ cup water)
  • 150g (5 oz) sugar    

  1. Put tempura mix into a large bowl. Add water and egg yolk; stir well to obtain a smooth batter.
  2. Heat oil in saucepan on medium heat. Coat apples with batter and fry until golden brown.
  3. Serve warm with ice cream of your choice.

Optional Caramel Coating:

  1. Spread cooked apples fritters on a sheet of aluminum foil to cool.
  2. Put sugar and water in a saucepan and let it boil (without stirring) for 20 minutes or until it turns light golden brown in colour.
  3. Using a fork or skewer, lightly dip the fritters in the caramel. Serves as above.
